FIGURATIVE PAINTINGS

When I paint someone, I'm highly empathetic to their experience. It's important that he or she feels comfortable - that's what makes a good model. Relaxing in a situation that most others don't get to enjoy. The outside world falls away and we enter a new realm. Sometimes a person enjoys modeling as much as I enjoy drawing. Though the subjects are often nude, it's not at all an erotic experience. It just makes the painting more interesting. Frank. Casual. Very personal. I often know someone better after painting them.

Some of the figurative paintings below are portraits, most are not. The portraits I make are typically custom pieces portraying multiple family members. Those paintings come with a certain happiness that the people bring themselves. It's a group adventure they share with me. See portraiture examples.
