THE GLUE

Jerald Silva's technique involves lightly coating the paper with a diluted layer of white glue to prevent pigments from penetrating and staining the paper. He prefers using “Glue It” by American Chemical Inc. in Minneapolis, from an industrial barrel that has lasted him 17 years so far.

"WATERCOLOR INCORRECT"

He thins the glue with water until it resembles a consistency thinner thanskim milk. Once dried, it provides a clear, subtle gloss that permits him to erase sectionshe may want to change. Since the glue prevents the paint from saturating the paper, it can be nearly washed off with ease.
